The amount of food insecurity we’re seeing is staggering and continues to grow. Due to the reduction in SNAP benefits, inflation, and rising costs for food, gas, and other essential items, there is an unprecedented demand for food and other necessities. Together, we can combat hunger wherever it exists.

The JFS temporary Mobile Food Pantry travels to Denver neighborhoods and housing complexes with high percentages of food insecurity and community and recreation centers.

Erase the need with backpacks and supplies—it’s a school thing
All kids should start the school year with the supplies they need to help them be successful in school—and you can help them thrive.
As the cost of living increases and caregivers struggle to afford school supplies, you can help JFS provide more than 400 backpacks filled with school supplies to kids at our Lunchbox Express program sites! Donating $50.00 provides all the essentials for kids’ first day of school, including a backpack. You have the power to help boost confidence, promote learning, and encourage success for students in our community—and show them we’ve got their backs!
Lunchbox Express is BACK!
JFS’s Lunchbox Express program adapted to accommodate COVID-19 health and safety guidelines for the past two years. With restrictions lifting, we’re excited to welcome children back to our traditional service model. When schools let out for summer, families who rely heavily on school-based free and reduced-price lunch programs can turn to the Lunchbox Express program to receive nutritionally balanced lunches.

The Toltz family has supported JFS for decades, and Steven Toltz, president of Dependable Cleaners, continues their legacy of giving. “Besides a generational understanding, I have several friends and family who have volunteered at JFS or sat on its Board,” said Toltz.

Providing a Non-judgmental Safety Net
What do you do when you need life-saving medical treatment but don’t have insurance or even enough money for rent or food? Unfortunately, this was the dilemma Corey found himself in about 10 years ago when he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. Corey was already struggling with diabetes, having enough food to eat, and paying his rent, and on top of all of those challenges, he lost his health insurance.

Be Merry, Be Bright
The JFS Bright Holidays program began more than 20 years ago as a giving tree at Graland Country Day School. Every December since then, the holiday spirit spreads throughout the community and people’s hearts, as the program flourishes each year.
Stocking Shelves and Fighting Food Insecurity
Shelves are stocked with staples, refrigerators are filled with dairy products and meat, bins are full of fresh fruits and vegetables, and three days each week, staff and volunteers are ready to welcome shoppers at the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Food Pantry. Clients can visit the food pantry two times per month.
Holiday Gratitude
Thank you to everyone who contributed food, funds, or time to help us provide all the fixings for a festive Thanksgiving meal to 948 individuals from 330 households! And thank you to those who donated to JFS on Colorado Gives Day, helping us surpass our goal.
