So far this fiscal year, the Career Services team has helped 90 clients find meaningful employment.
JFS is proud to have more than 650 active volunteers who dedicate their time and talents across the agency to help our community thrive.
Our Career Services team has always prioritized holistic support for individuals. When clients come to us, the solution is rarely as simple as “hurry up and get a job.” Many face barriers such as childcare needs, trauma, and transportation challenges that can significantly limit opportunities.
For one incredible and resilient single mom, all of these barriers and more stood in her way. Thanks to her hard work and determination, she was hired on the spot at the New American Women’s Empowerment (NAWE) hiring event in September. It was the first job she ever had, and despite the job being more than 10 miles from her home, she took the bus every day to make it to work.
When she shared that, while she was grateful to be working, the multiple-hour bus commute was exhausting, the Career Services team turned to our incredible pool of volunteers for help. Now, a few times each week, she connects with others and builds community as she receives rides to and from work. For a woman who rarely has the luxury of self-care, these rides make a meaningful difference.
We are so grateful for our volunteers who go above and beyond, donating their time, energy, and gas to make these urban road trips possible. The impact on this client and her family cannot be understated.
