Utility Boxes Become Works of Art

More than a year ago, a conversation between JFS Chief Advancement Officer Jessica Zeidman and Councilwoman Kendra Black about our Arts and Community Exploration program (ACE) clients painting electrical utility boxes around the JFS Tamarac office has come to fruition.

The beautification project unfolded thanks to two volunteers, John Keith and Cliff Austin, and five ACE clients, and now two utility boxes are colorful works of art.

“Clients, staff, and volunteers met to come up with a concept, ‘What JFS means to me,’ and Janna Crandall was the creator of the final design,” shared Judy Pankoff, ACE program manager. “Volunteer artist Cliff Austin took Janna’s drawing and did a computer-generated mockup on the box, which gave a framework for scaling sketch to the box. After getting approval from Councilwoman Black’s office for the project, we purchased supplies and scheduled a painting date. Our clients cleaned, painted on the primer and base coat, and created the scene.”

The painting project results are bound to bring smiles to all who pass by them! Learn more about our ACE program.
