Golden West residents celebrate long-time JFS volunteers

Evie and Mary Ann have been spearheading programs at Golden West Senior Living for more than 18 months. Evie and Mary Ann organize monthly movie nights, choose films with compelling themes, from documentaries to comedies. They have enjoyed getting to know people, watching films, and hearing everyone’s input during discussions. They worked together with staff and residents to create successful events, arranging the community room’s chairs, serving snacks, and navigating AV systems.  

Evie and Mary Ann recently decided to step down from their JFS Ambassador roles at Golden West. However, they will continue to volunteer at holiday events and hope to maintain their connection with people living there.  

Residents and JFS staff said, “Thank You!” to Mary Ann and Evie with a party on March 3. The Jubilee Klezmer band played a lively and moving set to kick off the celebration. Evie and Mary Ann were honored with Challah covers decorated by residents and received thank you notes from residents and JFS staff. Volunteer Katie Schminky and her daughters helped welcome (and delight) guests and served snacks and drinks during the concert.
