In the garden with JFS Altius Farms
Spring is in full swing at JFS Altius Farms! So much is happening at the Farm, and we’re excited to share more about how (and what) we’re growing.
Our greenhouse production is nearing summer levels with everything growing so fast with all of the spring sunshine and warm temperatures we’ve been enjoying. Lettuces, arugula, and basil are especially productive now, and the team is enjoying perfect working conditions in the greenhouse—not too hot and not chilly. (Did you know that temperatures in the greenhouse can range from 50 to 90+ degrees, depending on the season?) We’re harvesting more than 700 pounds of greens weekly and have donated each week of the past month to the pantry.
Mushroom production is underway! The team has provided blue oyster, enoki, black pearl, and lion’s mane to restaurant customers, the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, and Emily Griffith School’s culinary studies classes.
The outdoor garden has been awakened for the season. JFS Altius Farms hosted a volunteer day on March 28, and 14 volunteers helped with weeding, raised bed preparations, and adding compost. Thanks to their support, the beds are planted with early spring crops, such as fava beans, carrots, radishes, herbs, and garlic.
We can’t wait to share more about JFS Altius Farms as we grow!
