April Volunteer of the Month, Myra L.

Myra L., JFS volunteer of the month.

We are excited to introduce Myra L., our March Volunteer of the Month. Abbey volunteers with employment services, helping with essential data entry to help staff understand our clients and their needs.

Staff member Abbey shared:

“Thank you, Myra, for helping Individual Supported Employment (ISE) with the data entry that keeps our staff informed about clients, and that allows our program to run! Your speed and attention to detail with the data are impressive, and we are so grateful to have you with ISE!”

Q: Tell us about yourself and your background.

ML: I grew up on the East Coast in the retail clothing industry.  When my husband and I moved to Colorado, we settled in Ft Collins, where, with a dedicated group of volunteers, we were able to fundraise, establish, and build Har Shalom synagogue.  Years later, we moved to Denver, where I finished my college education, attended and graduated from DU Law School, and practiced for 20+ years.  We are members of HEA in Denver.

Q: What volunteer role do you have with JFS, and what roles have you had with JFS?

ML: Data entry for ISE.

Q: What motivated you to begin volunteering with JFS?

ML: I had volunteered at National Jewish Hospital gift shop from 2015 until it closed and moved to the new building.  After that, I had volunteered at Mile High Horse Rescue doing data entry.  Unfortunately, the office they had was physically uncomfortable, so I searched for a different volunteer opportunity and began with JFS this past February.

Q: What's your favorite part about volunteering with JFS, and how has being a JFS volunteer impacted your life?

ML: My favorite part about volunteering is feeling that I am doing something for my community, no matter how small.

Q: What would you say to someone considering volunteering with JFS?

ML: It is important to share your skills to assist in addressing the needs of our community.
