Volunteer Vaccination Policy

Policy

Jewish Family Service of Colorado (JFS) continues in its commitment to protecting the health and well-being of volunteers, clients, staff and their families.

This COVID-19 Vaccination Policy (“Policy”) is based on guidance and recommendations issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other public health authorities. The COVID-19 vaccine has been determined to be a safe and effective.

Effective 02/09/2023, JFS will require all volunteers over the age of 12 years, to be COVID-19 vaccinated and to maintain any future related requirements if the volunteer is working with vulnerable populations which includes Disability Services and Older Adult programs. Specifically, this includes the following programs:

  • Best Buddies

  • JCC Lunch Server

  • Friendly Visitors

  • Food Box Delivery

What qualifies as “fully vaccinated”?

JFS considers you fully vaccinated two weeks after the second dose of a two-dose COVID vaccine (like Pfizer or Moderna), or two weeks after a single-dose COVID vaccine (like Johnson & Johnson).

How do I show proof when I volunteer?

For vaccinated individuals, your proof can be in the form of your COVID-19 Vaccination Card can be uploaded with your new application or emailed to volunteer@jewishfamilyservice.org.

Also note that JFS has had a vaccine requirement in place for JFS staff since September 2021, so that we can all do our part in keeping ourselves and each other safe and healthy.

Any documentation received will be kept confidential to the extent required by law.

Requests for Exemptions as a Reasonable Accommodation

A volunteer who has a qualifying medical condition that contraindicates a COVID-19 vaccination, or who objects to being vaccinated based on a substantiated religious belief, observance, or practice may request an exemption from this vaccination policy. All requests should be directed to Volunteer Services. JFS will determine if an exemption as a reasonable accommodation may be appropriate. This process will involve exchanging information about the reasons for the request and identifying appropriate accommodation. An exemption as a reasonable accommodation may be provided so long as it does not cause an undue hardship for JFS or pose a direct threat to others' health and safety. This determination will be made on a case-by-case basis.

Reminders

Yes, we know you know but reminders never hurt:

  • Stay home if you don’t feel well! We can’t wait to have you join us, but let’s hold off until you’re feeling 100%!

  • Wash and sanitize your hands frequently. Hand washing with soap and water is best (for the length of two rounds of “Happy Birthday!”), but hand sanitizer will do in a pinch. Make sure to cover any cough or sneeze with your sleeve, not your hands. We’ll be sure to keep all often-touched communal surfaces clean frequently.

  • Wear your mask if you wish! JFS has masks at the receptionist desk for those who do not have one or need an additional one.

  • And speaking of physical distancing, let’s keep at it! Whenever possible, keep at least six feet of space between you and others.
