Because JoAnne is a caregiver for her aging parents, she is only able to work part-time, and with rising costs, her parents’ Social Security isn’t enough to cover expenses. After paying the bills, there is not much money left for food. JoAnne was often forced to figure out how to stretch the food they had for as long as possible, so no one went hungry, until she learned about our food pantry.

Natalie works as a housekeeper to support her two young children. She often found herself struggling to make ends meet, especially at the end of the month when rent was due. Sometimes she skipped meals so there would be enough food for her sons and money to pay the rent. Facing eviction after a costly car repair bill, Natalie learned about JFS’s housing programs and, with financial assistance, was able to keep her home and provide more stability for her family.

When he was a child, Diego’s family made the scary decision to flee their war-torn country in search of a better life in the United States. Now the family lives in safe housing, his parents work, and Diego attends school, but the horrors they endured continue to affect them. The family discovered JFS’s individual and family refugee mental health counseling, which helps them recover from trauma and achieve stability.
