Relief Residential Group Home Counselor (Southeast Denver)

This position assists, trains, provides guidance and support and responds to the needs of persons with developmental disabilities living in the Jewish Group Home located in southeast Denver. This includes ensuring the general welfare, safety and health of the residents living at the Group Home. This position provides relief to the counselors when ill or on leave, or for situations where additional staff is needed. This may include 24-hour and/or weekend shifts.

Qualifications:
  1. Education: Must have a high school diploma or GED. 
  2. Experience:  Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities, or a related field, preferred.
  3. Physical Requirements: Must be able to carry/lift up to 40 pounds. Annual TB test required. Annual flu shot required unless employee provides documentation from physician stating flu shot is contraindicated.
  4. Other: Possess clean driving record and able to drive 15-passenger van, proof of current vehicle insurance. Flexibility to help cover planned and unplanned shifts

Responsibilities:

  • Provide proof of or receive ongoing trainings and certifications.
  • Create and maintain a structured and consistent environment for Group Home residents.
  • Follow all federal, state, and local rules and regulations for a Group Home.
  • Follow all organizational policy and procedures and program protocols.
  • Attend staff/resident meetings as required.
  • Administer medications to residents in accordance with all state rules and regulations and agency policy and procedures.
  • Train and educate residents on emergency preparedness and provide emergency assistance as trained.
  • Know and follow all resident’s Individualized Service and Support Plans, informal service plans, behavioral plans, and complete all documentation as required.
  • Complete Shift Ending Report daily and promote professional communication to other co-workers and management.
  • Counsel, monitor, and assist residents in all areas of daily life.
  • Follow Group Home menu protocol.
  • Provide needed transportation to residents or help them set up outside transportation.
