SHALOM Denver Activities Specialist—Full Time

The Activities Specialist is responsible for assisting persons with developmental disabilities to participate in educational, recreational, and volunteer activities onsite and in the community.

  1. Education: High School or GED
  2. Experience: Some experience working with special populations in education and/or recreation settings.
  3. Physical Requirements: Able to lift up to 40 pounds in order to perform necessary tasks, such as assist clients when necessary, carry supplies and equipment, move light equipment, etc. Able to bend, kneel, stoop, and perform push/pull motions in order to perform necessary tasks, such as moving light supplies and equipment, pick up materials, etc. Able to grasp or hold items in order to perform necessary tasks, such as handling materials and supplies, move items, etc.
  4. Other: Must be able to work in a team setting, have good driving record and current proof of vehicle insurance. Helpful to have CPR, first aid, various safety skills, and/or defensive driving.


  • Provide group support, supervision, and transportation to people receiving services as defined through the interdisciplinary team process.
  • Manage a caseload of participants. As an interdisciplinary team member, assess the needs and desires of the individuals, attend interdisciplinary and annual team meetings, advocate and assist in developing service and support plans to ensure person-centered outcomes. Monitor success of outcomes attained and document progress.
  • Facilitate small group recreation, cultural, and educational outings.
  • Assist with organization of office and activity space during and after activities.
  • Provide assistance with activities of daily living.
