Grant Accountant and Payroll Manager

This position is responsible for managing grant activities and payroll staff.

Qualifications:

  • Education – BS in Accounting, preferred.
  • Certifications – CPP, preferred.
  • Experience – 3-5 years of nonprofit accounting experience, including experience with federal grants, payroll, and staff supervision.
  • Other – Knowledge of A-133 reporting and Single Audit experience.Knowledge and interpretation of contracts. Knowledge of payroll laws, benefits, Cobra, unemployment, HSAs, 401(k). Experience working with accounting software and advanced Excel skills.

Responsibilities:

A. Responsible for all grant activities, including grant budget preparation, narratives, expense coding review, invoice review, and reporting.

  • Prepare monthly internal grant status reports and identify variances to budget and recommend resolutions.
  • Monitor monthly reports for matching funds required by federal grants.
  • Review grant billings and monitor spending levels for grant funding expenditures.
  • Assist in preparation of annual budget for grant revenues and expenditures.
  • Assist in annual audit (financial, A-133, 401(k), worker’s comp).
  • Meet with Directors regarding grant performance and proposals.

B. Manage and oversee payroll processing, including employee timecards, mileage and expense reimbursements, employee leave, holiday time, float time, and benefits within the payroll processing system.

  • Prepare journal entries for: payroll, 401(k), benefits plans, leave time, unemployment, worker’s comp, and HSA.
  • Review W-2, 941 and other payroll related filings.
