Lunchbox Express Providing Free Summer Lunches and Books at 21 Locations in Disadvantaged Neighborhoods

Lunchbox Express, a program of Jewish Family Service of Colorado (JFS), will begin providing free summer lunches through the USDA’s Summer Food Service Program on May 28. Lunchbox Express is a simple mobile food delivery system that brings fresh, nutritious lunches via repurposed mini school buses and some static sites. The program targets residential areas with a high percentage of children who typically receive free or reduced-fee lunches at school during the school year.

This event will celebrate the diversity of JFS clients while benefiting the life-transformative work of the agency. Community members are invited to pay tribute to David Asarch, who will receive the Yana Vishnitsky Leadership Award, and Mindy Levy Peckar, who will be honored with the Joyce and Kal Zeff Humanitarian Award.

Local Organizations Donate 10,000 Pounds of Food to Jewish Family Service

Because food donations to Jewish Family Service’s (JFS) Weinberg Food Pantry drop significantly in the springtime, the agency recently held a Spring Community Food Drive. Ten local businesses, churches, schools, JFS staff, and other organizations participated and collectively donated nearly 10,000 pounds of food. This food will supply the Weinberg Food Pantry for one month and can feed 550 people for five days.

Bereavement Support Group Begins January 24

Rafael Spiritual Healing Services, a program of Jewish Family Service Mental Health Specialists and the Jewish Community Chaplaincy, is offering a bereavement group for people who have experienced the loss of a loved one. The group will run on Wednesdays from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m., beginning January 24 through March 14 at Jewish Family Service, 3201 South Tamarac Drive in Denver. Participants are asked to make a commitment to attend all eight sessions. The cost is $200. Arrangements can be made for those unable to pay.
