Third Graders Put Jewish Values into Action to Benefit JFS

Performing acts of loving kindness (gemilut chasadim), doing good deeds (mitzvot), philanthropic giving (tzedakah), and working to repair the world (tikkun olam) are all integral parts of the daily teachings at Denver Jewish Day School (Denver JDS). One way these values are taught is through the Helping Hands project, which connects each grade in the Lower Division (kindergarten through fifth grade) with a local nonprofit. JFS is the proud recipient of the third graders’ year-long community service project.

Nearly 325 people joined us at the Hangar at Stanley Marketplace last week to pay tribute to David Asarch and Mindy Levy Peckar at the Faces of JFS 2018 Winter Soirée. Hannah Kutnick's Backpack Bonanza to Support Lunchbox Express News Coverage

11-year-old Hannah Kutnick recently organized her second annual “Backpack Bonanza,” a drive to generate donations for back-to-school backpacks and school supplies for at-risk children. A Mouth-Watering Mitzvah

More than a year ago, Brooke Gralla met with Nancy Benyamin, JFS director of Volunteer Services, to discuss ideas for her daughter Julia’s upcoming mitzvah project and to find ways they could volunteer together. Brooke and Julia decided to volunteer with Lunchbox Express delivering meals and books to low-income children throughout the metro area last summer.
