Hannah Kutnick's Backpack Bonanza to Support Lunchbox Express News Coverage

11-year-old Hannah Kutnick recently organized her second annual “Backpack Bonanza,” a drive to generate donations for back-to-school backpacks and school supplies for at-risk children. She collected and donated 300 loaded backpacks to Jewish Family Service, which were distributed to children in need through our Lunchbox Express program. Check out the news coverage below!

A Mouth-Watering Mitzvah

More than a year ago, Brooke Gralla met with Nancy Benyamin, JFS director of Volunteer Services, to discuss ideas for her daughter Julia’s upcoming mitzvah project and to find ways they could volunteer together. Brooke and Julia decided to volunteer with Lunchbox Express delivering meals and books to low-income children throughout the metro area last summer.

Local Organizations Donate 10,000 Pounds of Food to Jewish Family Service

Because food donations to Jewish Family Service’s (JFS) Weinberg Food Pantry drop significantly in the springtime, the agency recently held a Spring Community Food Drive. Ten local businesses, churches, schools, JFS staff, and other organizations participated and collectively donated nearly 10,000 pounds of food. This food will supply the Weinberg Food Pantry for one month and can feed 550 people for five days.

Donor Spotlight: Jerry and Gail Sloat

Jerry SloatJerry and Gail Sloat have been longtime supporters of Boulder JFS. In fact, their first contact with JFS was when Jerry volunteered to sound the shofar at a JFS High Holy Day service in an assisted living facility approximately 35 years ago! Since then, their involvement has grown. Jerry still sounds the shofar at all of the High Holy Day services in many senior living communities around Boulder. Gail has been a Friendly Visitor volunteer for about seven years, which she loves.

Whole Foods: A Whole Lot More than Our Neighborhood Grocery Store

Whole Foods Tamarac recently raised nearly $20,000 for Jewish Family Service (JFS) through two of its community donation programs: Feed 4 More and bag credits. Through Feed 4 More, cashiers ask customers to help fill the cupboards for a family of four by donating $5, $10, or any other amount when they check out. The store chose JFS as this program’s recipient organization for the 2017 holiday season.

Guests enjoying the food stationsMore than 350 people joined us last week at the Grand Hyatt to pay tribute to Gay Curtiss-Lusher and Sam Zaitz at the “Faces of JFS” fundraiser. Everyone enjoyed the festive party, complete with cocktails, delicious international food stations and passed hors d’oeuvres, a photo opportunity from A Custom Look, and upbeat entertainment by Spinphony.

Award-winning Hollywood writer, actor, and comedian Bruce Vilanch entertained nearly 300 people attending the 5th annual Reel Hope Boulder, benefiting Boulder Jewish Family Service (JFS). Special thanks to generous donors who gave to support the life-transforming work that JFS does in the Boulder community to help people like Rebecca (pictured to the right). In this record year, Reel Hope Boulder grossed more than $92,000—a 22% increase over last year!
