Denver Post: Lunchbox Express hands out books and backpacks as well as meals to Denver children

Jewish Family Service's Lunchbox Express program was featured in The Denver Post on August 15, 2017 as we distributed backpacks filled with school supplies to children in Denver and Lakewood:

Katie Chesshir’s 5-year-old son ran up to a table at Knapp Elementary in Denver and grabbed an extra chocolate milk.

He was using “his cute card” to get a second helping, Chesshir said with a laugh.

Chesshir stopped by the school with her son and his three siblings several times over the summer to enjoy a free lunch, courtesy of Jewish Family Services’ Lunchbox Express program. The program is in its fourth year of bringing lunches to children in need in metro Denver during summer break. Many of the children’s families rely on the free or reduced-fee lunches offered by schools when classes are in session. Jewish Family Services helps fill in when local schools are closed.
