Local Organizations Donate 10,000 Pounds of Food to Jewish Family Service

Because food donations to Jewish Family Service’s (JFS) Weinberg Food Pantry drop significantly in the springtime, the agency recently held a Spring Community Food Drive. Ten local businesses, churches, schools, JFS staff, and other organizations participated and collectively donated nearly 10,000 pounds of food. This food will supply the Weinberg Food Pantry for one month and can feed 550 people for five days.

Arabic-speaking Women’s Group Brings Hope Through Story

JFS’s recent Arabic-speaking Women’s Wellness Group, facilitated by the Refugee Mental Health program, was a smashing success due in large part to the courage of the women who participated. The long and challenging 18-inch journey from their heads to their hearts directly correlated with their long and arduous journeys from Iraq and Syria to Colorado.

Donor Spotlight: Jerry and Gail Sloat

Jerry SloatJerry and Gail Sloat have been longtime supporters of Boulder JFS. In fact, their first contact with JFS was when Jerry volunteered to sound the shofar at a JFS High Holy Day service in an assisted living facility approximately 35 years ago! Since then, their involvement has grown. Jerry still sounds the shofar at all of the High Holy Day services in many senior living communities around Boulder. Gail has been a Friendly Visitor volunteer for about seven years, which she loves.
