Addressing Economic Vulnerability in Our Jewish Community
At JFS, we have long understood that economic hardship doesn’t always look how we expect and can affect anyone.
The rising costs of basic needs, such as food, health care, housing, and transportation—combined with unexpected life events like job loss, illness, or divorce—have created a growing population of Jewish individuals and families who are struggling to or are not making ends meet. These challenges do not just threaten financial stability; they impact mental health, strain relationships, and limit participation in Jewish communal life.
To address these needs, JFS offers timely, personalized, and effective support through financial assistance and case management, connecting Jews in need with both internal and external resources.
In addition, our Jewish Community Liaison:
Ensures Jewish leaders and community members know about our 30+ programs and services and how to access them.
Collaborates with b’nai mitzvah youth and adults on community service projects aligned with JFS programs.
Tailors volunteer opportunities for synagogues, schools, and Jewish agencies seeking “hands on” opportunities
Speaks to community groups, including Giving Circles, friendship groups (chaverot), assisted living facilities, synagogues, and schools.
Assists with launching food drives.
