ACE Special Olympics Bocce Team

Congratulations to our JFS Team ACE for their incredible performance at the Special Olympics Regional and State Bocce Competitions this summer!

The Regional competition was held midway through the eight-week season at Denver’s Kennedy Sport Complex. JFS had three competitors, who played as singles (as opposed to a team), and they placed second, third, and fourth in their divisions, which were based on gender, age, and ability.

“I was so proud of each of our athletes for competing in Bocce. This was a new sport for every person who competed, and they took home second, third, and fourth place ribbons,” shared JFS Disability service program manager, Alexa Feenstra. “Special Olympics has been such a great community for us to get involved with, and it was clear that our athletes had a great time from the opening ceremonies to competing and cheering on their teammates.”

Regional winners participated the State Special Olympics competition at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, and we’re thrilled to share that Nicole M. earned the silver medal, and Emmanuel D. received fourth place!

“I learned a new sport. I watched others and how they played to learn good strategies,” said Team ACE member Nicole M.

Go Team ACE! We are so proud of your dedication and enthusiasm this bocce season!
