Supporting Older Adults in Arapahoe County: The Impact of Aid to Agencies Grant Funding
Homemaker with ACC client.
The JFS Aging Care and Connections (ACC) department is dedicated to helping older adults maintain independence, dignity, and quality of life. Through personalized care management, homemaker services, and food and nutrition programs — including Kosher Meals on Wheels, the Community Table Lunch program, and pantry box delivery — ACC meets older adults where they are, offering services tailored to individual needs and life circumstances.
Thanks to the Aid to Agencies grant, JFS has been able to address critical, unmet needs for older adults in Arapahoe County, especially those living with chronic medical conditions who don’t qualify for other programs. This flexible funding has allowed our team to step in when no one else could — providing everything from help navigating complex resources and benefit applications to home maintenance and personalized care planning.
The people we serve often live alone and face the challenges of isolation. But with ACC’s support, they’re not alone. One client shared how JFS’s assistance with chores and meal preparation has allowed her to remain in her home. She describes her homemaker’s weekly visit “the highlight of my week.”
Another client, behind on her rent and facing eviction, worked with her JFS care manager to secure rental assistance and found a new, safe home in her preferred location—close to her doctor’s office and still within Arapahoe County.
The team also supports clients by helping them apply for benefits such as SNAP and Medicaid, find accessible transportation, manage daily tasks, and receive essential food and opportunities for social connection.
The flexibility of the Aid to Agencies funding has been invaluable, enabling JFS to build strong, dependable support systems for older adults and their families in Arapahoe County. This investment has strengthened JFS’s capacity to serve the community effectively.
