July Volunteer of the Month, Carol Ann

We are excited to introduce Carol Ann W., our July Volunteer of the Month. Carol Ann is a dedicated and compassionate volunteer who goes above and beyond to support our community. While she currently serves as a thank-you caller and Justice Necessary hygiene kit packer, she has contributed to many other volunteer roles throughout her time with JFS. Her kindness, adaptability, and unwavering commitment to service make her an exceptional volunteer. We're so grateful for all that she does.

Staff member Mansour shared:

"She has done an amazing job supporting one of the refugee families. She helped them learn English and adjust to their new life in the US."

Q: Tell us about yourself and your background.

CW: I have been retired for two and one-half years, after working as a legal assistant for 27 years in several Denver law firms and 13 years as an administrative assistant at a Denver nursing school. I have a wonderful son and two fabulous young grandsons. I have been on the board of directors of the Sisterhood of Temple Emanuel Denver for 25 years and was president for two of those years. I continue to volunteer at Temple in various capacities.

Q: What volunteer role do you have with JFS, and what roles have you had with JFS?

CW: I am currently a Justice Necessary and Thank You Caller volunteer. In the past. I have provided support for Refugee Clients by working with one family by assisting them to get acclimated to their new life in the U.S., driving a few others to their jobs, and teaching a few others about the RTD bus system. I have also worked the Weinberg Food Pantry, both on-site and mobile.

Q: What motivated you to begin volunteering with JFS?

CW: I believe in Tikkun Olam and it is a guiding principle in my life.  I had always wanted to work with JFS, knowing there is a great need in the community for its services, and can now do so since I have been retired for just over two years.

Q: What's your favorite part about volunteering with JFS, and how has being a JFS volunteer impacted your life?

CW: Knowing that whatever I do makes a difference in someone else's life and that makes all I do for JFS totally worthwhile!

Q: Do you have a memorable story about your JFS volunteer experience to share? If so, please share below.

CW: I was working with a refugee client who told me that women in her country did not hug others. After we worked together for awhile, when saying good-bye one day, we gave each other a hug. I thought that was amazing and will never forget that moment!

Q: What would you say to someone considering volunteering with JFS?

CW: Just do it! Not only is it fun and you will make new friends, but it is rewarding.
