August Volunteer of the Month
We are excited to introduce Sandi R., our August Volunteer of the Month. Sandi volunteers helping greet clients and visitors to JFS at the reception desk, directing them to the person or program they need. Sandi is a dedicated and positive presence at the front desk, always greeting everyone with a smile and a willingness to help. Her cheerful attitude and consistent support have made a meaningful impact on both staff and visitors. Sandi’s reliability, warmth, and commitment to service embody the spirit of our volunteer community. We’re so grateful for all that she does.

Q: Tell us about yourself and your background.
SR: I’ve been married awhile, I have three children, and a 1-year-old granddaughter. I’m a retired special education teacher. I was born in San Francisco and moved to Denver to go to college and stayed loving all that Colorado has to offer.
Q: What volunteer role do you have with JFS, and what roles have you had with JFS?
SR: I began volunteering with JFS riding the lunchbox express, I also work in the pantry. I’ve also helped out with holiday activities and Thanksgiving food distribution. Early in 2024 I began helping out as a volunteer administrative assistant.
Q: What motivated you to begin volunteering with JFS?
SR: I began volunteering in 2016. After taking an early retirement I was looking for an organization where I could help others and JFS was a great match. My father had also supported JFS in San Francisco and carrying that opportunity was something I wanted to do in his memory.
Q: What's your favorite part about volunteering with JFS, and how has being a JFS volunteer impacted your life?
SR: I enjoy helping others. Being an administrative assistant is the best! Viv, Laurie and so many others have made me feel welcome and the skills I’m learning are good to keep my brain sharp. It’s different than my days in the pantry and lets me see another side of the organization. I have made many new friends with both other volunteers and staff.
Q: What would you say to someone considering volunteering with JFS?
SR: Sign up, great way to give a bit of yourself to less fortunate folks along with making new friends and it makes you feel good.
