Dates: Sundays in February: 1, 8, 15, and 22, 1-3 p.m.
Cost: $10 per program
Seating is limited; please call Cynthia Heller at (303) 597-5000, ext. 392 to register.

Join us for an educational program which will explore Jewish traditions around finding meaningful connection, engaging in sacred conversations and ritual, taking care of self and others in times of loss, sickness, stress, and change. Presenters and topics will include:

February 1: Sacred Conversations: Rabbi Henoch Dov (Howard) Hoffman will explore the questions of how we find G-d in our losses and how we engage in holy conversation with our anger, fears, hope, and humor.

February 8: Being the Mitzvah: Anthony Gottlieb, M.D. will discuss the mitzvah of bikor cholim (visiting the sick) and being a supportive presence to the isolated members of the Jewish community.

February 15: Using Ritual to Build Legacy: Rabbi Eliot Baskin, D. Min. will discuss what Judaism teaches about an ethical will and the benefits of this ritual, which helps to give one’s life meaning for both the dying as well as the living. Participants will have a chance to write their own ethical wills. In creating a literary testament to one’s values, morals, and aspirations, a legacy of the meaning of one’s life is passed from one generation to generation.

February 22: Striving for Wholeness: Joel F. Miller, M.D. will discuss learning to live more fully and more happily even while surrounded by the “hard knocks” of life. It’s very difficult to avoid death, taxes, and Wall Street, but in this session, Dr. Miller will address several key ways that can help us deal with these situations, such as minimizing stress, learning perspective, and developing an uplifted attitude.

02/22/09 - Jewish Disabilities Awareness Day
Jewish Disabilities Network hosts Jewish Disabilities Awareness Day. This free event, held February 22 from 2 to 5 p.m., is open to the public and promises to be an afternoon of entertaining and educational activities for people of all ages. The goal of the event is to bring awareness about inclusion of Jewish people with disabilities to the community.

The event will teach practical solutions, such as how to create a physically and attitudinally accessible synagogue, where to go for resources to help loved ones with disabilities, and small things we each can do to positively impact the life of another Jew with a disability.

We are honored to have guest speaker Dr. Jeff Lichtman, director of the Yachad/National Jewish Council for Disabilities with us from New York City for the event. Kosher food, music, and arts and crafts activities are also included in the festivities.

Thank you to our community partners: Robert E. Loup Jewish Community Center and Keshet of the Rockies.
